Nottingham Forest: Britt Assombalonga set for long-awaited comeback

19 April 2016

After a 14-month absence, Britt Assombalonga will be in the squad for Nottingham Forest's Sky Bet Championship game against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday evening.

Should the striker feature at any stage it will mark an incredible return to action following a serious knee injury which, at one stage, was described as career-threatening.

Assombalonga last featured for Forest on 11th February 2015 at the City Ground in a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic, a game in which the 23-year-old scored before being stretchered off.

His recovery period has lasted over a year and, after a successful rehabilitation process, he is now eager to get back on the pitch.

Speaking to ForestPlayerHD, he said: It’s been a very, very long time so I’m just happy to be involved.

“The City Ground is where I got injured and to go back there fit would be a nice feeling.

“There is still a long way to go – I’ll probably be at the top of my fitness come pre-season. You lose it so fast but to get it back takes a long time.”

His return has been eagerly anticipated, having scored 15 goals in his first season since signing from Peterborough United in August 2014.

Forest are currently 19th in the Sky Bet Championship having gone seven games without winning. They are nine points above Milton Keynes Dons who occupy the final relegation spot.

Blackburn Rovers, without a win in four, are also on 47 points but are a place above Forest due to a superior goal difference.

Will Assombalonga make a dream return to action?
