Lancashire derby live on Sky Sports: Preston North End v Burnley

22 April 2016

A Lancashire derby kicks off the weekend's action in the Sky Bet Championship live on Sky Sports, when Preston North End welcome promotion hopefuls Burnley to Deepdale on Matchday 44.

Sean Dyche's Clarets could go top of the Sky Bet Championship on Friday evening, for 24 hours at least, if they can overcome a North End side who are safely in mid-table on 58 points.

Burnley extended their unbeaten league run to 20 games during the week with a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough at Turf Moor to remain just two points behind the current league leaders.

As for Preston, they haven't won any of their last four home matches, losing once and drawing the other three.

Head-to-head

The two teams have met on no less than 130 occasions in all competitions.

Preston have the upper hand in terms of the statistics with 53 wins, while Burnley are two behind on 51.

The Lilywhites have won three of the last four Lancashire derbies played at Deepdale.

View from the dugout

Preston boss Simon Grayson said: "This is a big game for both football clubs, it's a local derby first and foremost, it's probably one of the first fixtures that our supporters and their supporters looked at when the fixtures came out in June.

"It's the business end of the season, there's so much to play for, it's going to be so tight for those two automatic places so it's a mouthwatering fixture for everybody concerned."

Sean Dyche added: "The derby is important, I know that, but the three points are important as well, so it makes for a good game.

"The focus has been clear for a long time and that is win the next game. It is for others to look at the bigger picture."

Earlier this season

In the reverse fixture, played on 5th December 2015, it was Preston who came out on top at Turf Moor following a 2-0 win.

Both goals came in the second half, courtesy of Will Keane and Daniel Johnson. Burnley have only failed to score twice at home since that defeat.
