Going up? Northampton Town can seal Sky Bet League 2 promotion

1 April 2016

Northampton Town have another opportunity to secure promotion to Sky Bet League 1 this weekend, when they host Notts County at Sixfields.

The Cobblers could have sealed their rise over the Easter weekend but results went against them, while they picked up four points with a win over Newport County and a draw at Mansfield Town.

For Northampton to go up...

Northampton will be promoted if they beat Notts County; Accrington Stanley lose to Cambridge United and Bristol Rovers fail to beat Crawley Town.

Chis Wilder's side currently lead fourth-placed Accrington by 16 points, and fifth-placed Bristol Rovers by 18 points, with seven games to play.

The Cobblers, who have spent seven seasons in Sky Bet League 2, are unbeaten in 17 matches and won 2-1 in the reverse fixture against Notts County at Meadow Lane.

Cooper's County

This match will be Mark Cooper's third in charge of Notts County, after he replaced Jamie Fullarton in the dugout prior to Easter. His first game ended in a 4-0 defeat at Portsmouth, while his second garnered a point in a goalless draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

In all, County are without a victory in nine outings, with seven of those matches being defeats. They are 13 points above the relegation zone, sitting 19th.

Their last visit to Northampton was in April 2010, when a Ben Davies goal secured them all three points on their way to the League 2 title. Now the roles are reversed...
