Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 9 review

26 September 2015

Newport County registered their first Sky Bet League 2 win of the season at the ninth attempt as they beat Carlisle United 1-0.

The three-point haul wasn't enough to lift them off the foot of the table, but it was a welcome result for Terry Butcher's side, who are now just one point from safety after Tyler Blackwood's first goal for the club.

Portsmouth are the new leaders at the other end of the table following their 2-1 success at Bristol Rovers, while Wycombe Wanderers are up to second after they secured a 2-1 triumph against Exeter City.

Former leaders Leyton Orient looked to have been defeated at the hands of Northampton Town when Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored in the third minute of second-half stoppage time for the Cobblers, but Dean Cox's strike in what was virtually the last kick of the match secured a point for the O's.

Barnet, Luton Town, Accrington Stanley and Cambridge United were among the day's other big winners.
