Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 7 review

12 September 2015

Plymouth Argyle inflicted a first defeat on Wycombe Wanderers, picking up a 2-1 triumph at Adams Park to move up to second in Sky Bet League 2.

Reuben Reid and Jake Jervis got the goals to put Plymouth just a point behind leaders Leyton Orient, who came from behind to draw 1-1 with Cambridge United.

Martin Allen returned to Fratton Park – where he once wore the captain's armband – with his Barnet side, but Portsmouth recorded a 3-1 win to go third, with the Bees not helped by goalkeeper Jake Stephens' dismissal.

Elsewhere, there were key penalty saves by Adam Smith (Northampton Town), Bobby Olejnik (Exeter City) and Scott Flinders (York City) whose respective sides all got positive results.

The Cobblers and the Grecians both picked up 1-0 wins, while York drew 2-2 with Stevenage. There were no such heroics from Newport County's Joe Day, who couldn't prevent Paul Mullin's stoppage-time spot-kick earning Morecambe all three points in Wales.

Notts County were also successful in time added on, heaping more late misery on Luton Town with a 3-2 triumph, while Mansfield Town were the day's big winners – they cruised to a 4-0 success over Crawley Town.
