Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 8 review

Tony Humes’ Colchester United recorded the stand-out result of matchday 8 in Sky Bet League 1, beating the previously undefeated Gillingham 2-1.

Gavin Massey gave the U’s the lead inside five minutes only for the Gills to level through Luke Norris.

Callum Harriot, on loan from Charlton Athletic, scored the winner on the half-hour mark, though, to make it back-to-back wins for the 12th-placed U's.

Burton Albion moved to the summit of the division after they won 1-0 at Swindon Town - Stuart Beavon scored the only goal of that game.

Southend United also won away from home, triumphing 2-0 at Millwall, while Crewe Alexandra beat Shrewsbury Town 1-0 on the road for their first victory of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Bury moved into the Play-Off places following their third win on the spin, against Port Vale.
