Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side have overcome Rochdale, Swindon and Chesterfield en route to the summit, ahead of their meeting with the sixth-placed Blades.
Although this is their first league clash, the two have met three times before; once in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and twice in the Capital One Cup. The Blades won in the Trophy, while the Brewers advanced in the Cup encounters.
Bury are the division’s form side having notched four straight wins, and they go to Peterborough United, who started well under Graham Westley by beating Bradford on Saturday.
The Bantams’ next opponents are the buoyant Colchester, who go into Tuesday after three victories in three.
Swindon are at the other end of the form table, losing three on the spin, and face lowly Doncaster Rovers, while bottom-of-the-table Blackpool meet Chesterfield for the first time since New Year's Day 2007.
Elsewhere, Oldham Athletic have shared the spoils in all four of their away games so far, and take that run to Port Vale on Tuesday.
