Reading thump Ipswich Town 5-1 to secure first home victory since March

11 September 2015

Reading recorded a comprehensive 5-1 win over Ipswich Town in the opening Sky Bet Championship game of the weekend, with Orlando Sa netting a hat-trick.

The Royals hadn't scored in front of their Madejski Stadium support since April prior to kick-off, and it was also the first time they earned all three points there since March.

The game exploded into life from the off, as Reading's Sa headed in from a Nick Blackman delivery after just seven minutes.

But visitors Ipswich replied almost immediately when Freddie Sears latched onto Reading goalkeeper Jonathan Bond's attempted save at the back post.

The 1-1 scoreline was short lived as well, however, and Sa scored his second of the game after 14 minutes with a well-taken strike from outside the area.

Blackman was on target next, in the second half, as he consolidated Reading's lead with a rifled close-range finish, before Sa grabbed his third of the night and claimed the first Sky Bet Championship hat-trick of the season.

Ollie Norwood capped a tremendous victory for Steve Clarke's side three minutes from time, firing his 30-yard effort into the top-left corner of the Ipswich goal.
