The first season

Preston's 'Invincibles' were the Football League's first champions, going unbeaten for the whole season and also picking up the FA Cup to become the first 'double' winners.

During the first campaign, which kicked-off on 8th September 1888, North End recorded two victories over Wolves.

The first was a 4-0 away success in September, before a 5-2 home victory in October. They also beat Wolves in the FA Cup, 3-0.

Preston went on to accumulate 40 points to earn them the title, while Wolves finished a highly-respectable third with 28 points.

This season

Neither side has enjoyed a blistering start to the season, and both languish in the bottom half of the Sky Bet Championship table.

Wolves are the higher of the two, sitting 18th, after two wins, two draws and three defeats so far. Their most recent victory was a 2-1 success over Charlton Athletic in late August.

Preston, meanwhile, are 22nd having won just once this term, following promotion last time around. That victory came on matchday 2, meaning they are now winless in six, with four of those being defeats.
