Neil Harris praises Aiden O'Brien and hails Millwall team performance

14 September 2015

Millwall manager Neil Harris singled out the performance of hat-trick hero Aiden O'Brien but praised his squad for their efforts in their 3-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League 1.

O'Brien's treble was his first in senior football and gave the Lions their second win of the season – their first since the opening day.

"He is a very talented young player and we have missed him in the early part of the season,” Harris said of 21-year-old O'Brien. “It was an excellent hat-trick and quite rightly he will get all the headlines.

"However, I also felt that it was a very good team performance. Over the last 10 days or so we have been working on our defensive shape and linking with the midfield and I felt there was evidence of that.”

Thanks for all the kind messeges, means a lot! Now onto Tuesday night !! Fans were amazing again! #Hatrick#GodBlesspic.twitter.com/MThlZ9oTJC

Millwall sit 18th following their win over Crewe, having lost three of their six outings so far. But Harris believes their most recent result will instil confidence in his men.

Their next match, on Tuesday, sees them go to Port Vale – a team they haven't met since February 2008, when they recorded a 3-0 victory at The Den.

"We now have another important match on Tuesday night at Port Vale and hopefully we can carry on where we left off.

“There have already been plenty of ups and downs this season and I'm sure there will be more to come but there is a spirit and growing confidence amongst this group of players which convinces me that we are moving in the right direction now."
