Live on Sky Sports: Bristol Rovers v Oxford United

3 September 2015

The first match of a Football League double-header on Sunday sees Bristol Rovers take on Oxford United in a 12:15pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.

Encouraging openings

Bristol Rovers and Oxford have made a positive opening to their respective campaigns, currently stationed in the upper echelons of the Sky Bet League 2 table.

The pair sit on nine points after their first five fixtures, with plenty of encouraging signs for supporters to draw optimism.

Despite losing a long unbeaten away record last weekend – which had lasted 21 regular season matches – Bristol Rovers have adapted to life back in The Football League with consummate ease so far.

Wins over Barnet, Luton Town and Yeovil Town have already proven that the Pirates belong at this level following promotion last term, but they face a tough test against unbeaten opposition on Sunday.

Oxford have picked up wins against Yeovil and Notts County, as well as drawing against Luton, Crawley Town and Mansfield Town, and they currently lie 5th in the table.

They also have two of the division’s in-form players, with Kemar Roofe and Danny Hylton both having accumulated four goals already.

Alongside their fine league form, Oxford also caught the eye in the Capital One Cup this season, when they dismantled Sky Bet Championship side Brentford in an eye-catching 4-0 win.

Head-to-head

Oxford and Bristol Rovers have been typically well matched, with the overall record between the sides very close.

Rovers have the upper hand, having won 18 of the 47 previous meetings between the sides, but Oxford can draw level if they are able to come out on top on Sunday.

Their most recent contest came in the 2013/14 campaign, and finished 1-1. James Constable scored Oxford’s goal, before John-Joe O’Toole netted a late equaliser.
