Ipswich Town and Birmingham City share the spoils in Friday night fixture

18 September 2015

Ipswich Town and Birmingham City kicked off the weekend action with a 1-1 draw in the Sky Bet Championship on Friday night.

Despite Ipswich starting the brighter, it was the visitors who took the lead when David Cotterill emphatically fired home from Andrew Shinnie's pass after 22 minutes.

The Tractor Boys didn't take long to respond, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles brought down after a strong run into the penalty area. Birmingham protested but Brett Pitman remained fully focussed, coolly converting from 12 yards.

The second half saw Mick McCarthy's side dominate proceedings but, for all their efforts, they could not find the winning goal.

Luke Chambers and Maitland-Niles both wasted chances, and substitute Daryl Murphy steered a free header off target, as the Blues held on for a hard-earned point.
