Hull City boss Steve Bruce: "We got away with it"

23 September 2015

Steve Bruce felt Hull City 'got away with it' after defeating Swansea City 1-0 to advance into Round 4 of the Capital One Cup.

Premier League outfit Swansea had a number of chances to take the lead at the KC Stadium, but the Tigers went in front through David Meyler just before half-time, and never looked back.

“Swansea could have had four or five goals in that first half and they were very, very good until we got to grips with how they played,” Bruce told the club's official website.

“Some of their first half chances came from our mistakes, and usually when you make mistakes against sides at that level you get punished but we got away with it.

“We changed one or two things which we needed to and defensively we were much better after half-time.

“All in all, we rode our luck a bit but we’re in the hat for the next round and sometimes you need luck to have a cup run.

“It was our night and all credit to the players because they stuck at their task. The longer it went the more comfortable we became and that was good to see against a very good Swansea team.”
