Elsewhere on Tuesday, Manchester City coasted to a 4-1 victory at Sunderland, with all four of their goals coming in the opening 36 minutes.
Middlesbrough were also comfortable winners, seeing off Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0, while Leicester City needed extra-time to overcome West Ham United 2-1.

At Deepdale, Bournemouth knocked out Preston North End 3-2 on penalties, following a 2-2 draw after extra-time.

There was a shock at St. James' Park, where Sheffield Wednesday ran out 1-0 winners over Newcastle United.
