Capital One Cup Round 3 preview

The Third Round of the Capital One Cup takes place this week and it promises to be a thrilling spectacle.

Round 3 sees the introduction of the Premier League sides who are involved in European competitions, and two of them, rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, have been paired together in what is arguably the pick of the games.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up in Round 3 of the Capital One Cup (kick-off times are 7.45pm unless stated):

Tuesday 22nd September

Aston Villa v Birmingham City (live on Sky Sports)
Fulham v Stoke City
Hull City v Swansea City
Leicester City v West Ham United
Middlesbrough v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Preston North End v AFC Bournemouth
Sunderland v Manchester City
Reading v Everton (8pm)

Wednesday 23rd September

Crystal Palace v Charlton Athletic
Milton Keynes Dons v Southampton
Newcastle United v Sheffield Wednesday
Norwich City v West Bromwich Albion
Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal (live on Sky Sports)
Walsall v Chelsea
Liverpool v Carlisle United (8pm)
Manchester United v Ipswich Town (8pm)

The North London derby is one of two Capital One Cup Round 3 matches being shown live on Sky Sports.

The cameras will first be at Villa Park, where Aston Villa lock horns with rivals Birmingham City on Tuesday night in a 7.45pm kick-off.

It’s then the turn of Spurs and Arsenal 24 hours later, in what is expected to be an enthralling encounter.

Another derby in the capital on Wednesday night sees Crystal Palace host Charlton Athletic at Selhurst Park.

Carlisle United caused arguably the biggest shock of Round 2 by knocking out Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, and the Sky Bet League 2 side were rewarded with a trip to eight-time League Cup winners Liverpool.

Ipswich Town also have the chance to upset top-flight opposition when they go to Manchester United, while Sky Bet League 1 high-flyers Walsall host Chelsea at Banks’s Stadium.
