Aitor Karanka proud of Middlesbrough players

28 September 2015

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka hailed his players after they beat Leeds United 3-0 to win their fifth successive Sky Bet Championship game.

David Nugent scored his third goal in four games after only 121 seconds at the Riverside, before Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci scored an own goal to make it 2-0 at the break.

Diego Fabbrini added a third in the closing stages, and Karanka spoke of his pride after the match, with the result moving Boro to within one point of leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

“I'm proud of my players. Once again they fought until the end, it was a tough game,” he told mfc.co.uk.

“Maybe 3-0 wasn't a reflection. It was good to score early and it’s another three points. The aim is to play as we are, fight for every point and the main thing for our fans are our home points.

“We didn’t play really, really well. I said before the game it would be tough, they are a good team with a good manager and we didn’t create a lot of chances.

“We didn’t play our best, but it was another very important three points.

“Now we need to push on, we need to do the right things. This is just the start in a very long, very tough season.”
