The winning team is set to be selected by a panel of judges over the coming days and will receive a supply of Johnstone’s Paint to utilise on a club project, as well as a trophy.

Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager for Johnstone’s Trade, said: “In very different ways, Oxford, Sheffield United and Wigan all showed exceptional qualities in the second round to keep alive their Wembley dreams.

“All three nominations for our Team of the Round award have strong credentials and the judges are going to have a very difficult choice when they come to select a winner.”

Sky Bet League 2 outfit Oxford took their place on the shortlist by claiming local bragging rights with a 2-0 victory over higher-ranked neighbours Swindon Town - Kemar Roofe making himself a hero for the hosts with a brace.

It was a goal frenzy which led to Sheffield United taking their place amongst the nominations as they powered past Notts County 5-1.

The Blades were awarded three penalties on the night, two of which were converted by Jose Baxter and the other by Che Adams. The remaining goals came from Matt Done and Stefan Scougall.

Wigan Athletic gave themselves a chance of award glory by twice coming from behind to notch a 3-2 victory at Crewe Alexandra, with Jordy Hiwula scoring twice and Yanic Wildschut getting one. ”
