Terry Butcher leaves Newport County

1 October 2015

Newport County have confirmed that Terry Butcher has left the club, with the team currently rooted to the bottom of Sky Bet League 2.

Newport were made to wait eight league games before picking up a long-awaited three points against Carlisle in Matchday 9, but a 3-0 defeat at home to Crawley Town in midweek sealed Butcher's fate.

The Exiles hope to appoint a manager before Saturday's clash with Exeter City, with a statement on the club website reading: "After Tuesday’s defeat against Crawley Town, the club can announce that manager Terry Butcher has today left the club with immediate effect.

"It has been a difficult start to the season with the team only managing one win out of 10 league games, and as a result we find ourselves bottom of the league.

"In addition to Terry's departure, Russell Osman [Assistant Manager] and Steve Marsella [Chief Scout] have also left the club.

"Newport County AFC would like to thank Terry and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club, and wish them every success for the future.

"The club hopes to make an announcement on a successor prior to Saturday's fixture against Exeter City."
