Preston ended a run of nine league games without a victory by coasting to a 3-0 success at Charlton Athletic. Hull City also won by three goals to nil, against Ipswich Town.
Three games took place on Wednesday evening, and Steve Evans' first match as Leeds United boss resulted in a point as they drew 1-1 at Fulham.
Elsewhere, Brentford defeated Wolves 2-0 at Molineux, while Blackburn Rovers and Derby County played out a goalless stalemate at Ewood Park.
