Newport County have installed John Sheridan as their new manager, less than 24 hours after Terry Butcher vacated the position at Rodney Parade.
Sheridan, who most recently guided Plymouth Argyle to the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off semi-finals, joins in time for the Exiles' match with Exeter City on Saturday. The 51-year-old, who also oversaw Chesterfield to the League 2 title in 2011, takes duty of a Newport side who have won just one of their opening 10 matches.
“Following the Supporters Trust taking control of the club in the past 24 hours, I am confident that if the players and fans work together we can help the squad climb the table, away from the relegation zone," Sheridan told newport-county.co.uk.
“From my time with Plymouth, Chesterfield and Oldham, I know what is required to succeed in this division."
