It was a glorious season for City last term, but they have found life hard so far in the Sky Bet Championship, winning just once and propping up the rest of the table with seven points.
One man who has certainly caught the eye for Cotterill's charges is record signing Jonathan Kodjia - the French striker is directly responsible for six of the 12 goals scored by the Robins this term.
Nottingham Forest are faring slightly better, with Dougie Freedman's men sitting 14th on 12 points, although they are winless in three.
They can take great confidence from the history books here, though. Out of the 83 meetings between the two clubs, Forest have won 38 to City's 15.
Coverage begins from 7pm on Sky Sports 1 on Friday night, and you can follow our @SkyBetChamp. Twitter feed to keep up to date with all the match action.
