Sheffield United were the big winners in Round 2 of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, beating Notts County 5-1.
The Blades were 3-0 up inside 36 minutes - two of those being penalties - and added two more goals in the second half, including another spot-kick.Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle came out on top in the two ties between rivals, overcoming Swindon Town and Exeter City respectively.
Kemar Roofe was at the double for Oxford, while the Pilgrims beat the Grecians thanks to goals from Hiram Boateng and Craig Tanner.
Morecambe produced arguably the shock of the round as they beat in-form Bury 1-0 on the road, with the Shakers winning seven in succession prior to that loss.
York City also got the better of higher-division opposition, defeating Doncaster Rovers 2-0.
There was just the one match on Wednesday night, with Dagenham & Redbridge booking their place in the Area Quarter-Final courtesy of a 2-1 win at Stevenage.
A week after postponement due to a waterlogged pitch, Bradford City’s tie against Barnsley was replayed, and it was the Tykes who advanced courtesy of a 2-1 victory.
