Fortune favours the visitors: Portsmouth v Yeovil Town

2 October 2015

Portsmouth and Yeovil Town go head-to-head at Fratton Park this weekend, and only the travelling side has ever taken victory in the fixture.

The pair met for the first time in October 2012, in League 1, and Pompey prevailed 2-1 courtesy of Izale McLeod and Gabor Gyepes goals.

That scoreline was repeated in their return meeting that season, but instead the points went the way of the Glovers, after strikes from Dominic Blizzard and Byron Webster.

Their latest encounter again took place at Huish Park, this time in last season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy, as a brace from Jed Wallace and a goal from Craig Westcarr gave travelling Portsmouth a 3-1 win.

Meetings between Portsmouth and Yeovil Town:

October 2012: Yeovil 1-2 Portsmouth
December 2012: Portsmouth 1-2 Yeovil
September 2014: Yeovil 1-3 Portsmouth

This weekend, Pompey will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign, where they fell 2-1 to Exeter City on Matchday 10.

Despite that loss, Paul Cook's side still remain within touching distance of top spot in Sky Bet League 2, just two points off leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

The same cannot be said of Yeovil, however, who are just one point shy of entering the relegation places at this early stage of the season.

They've won just twice all season, and have suffered defeat to Hartlepool United and Accrington Stanley in their most recent outings.
