Dean Smith believes Walsall were 'excellent' against Burton Albion

12 October 2015

Dean Smith heaped praise on his Walsall side after they beat Burton Albion to move up to the summit of Sky Bet League 1.

Liam Kinsella and Tom Bradshaw scored the goals as the Saddlers recorded a 2-0 success over the Brewers, and the result saw them overtake their opponents on goal difference, with both taking 25 points from their opening 12 games.

"It was a deserved win,” Smith told saddlers.co.uk.

“We were excellent, in the first half especially. We moved the ball well and looked really organised, which has been key for us this season. It has given us the platform to score goals and keep clean sheets.

“It’s the sign of a good team when everyone plays well like that – it’s what you need.

“We’re 12 games in and have only lost one game. We deserve a lot of credit for how we’re playing and the results we’ve had.

"We’ve had a lot of publicity for being where we are but we want to be there in May – that’s when the prizes are given out."

Manager Smith also singled out Kinsella for praise, with the promising defender finding the net on his first league start for the club.

What a game, thanks for all the fans for there support, buzzing to get my first career goal... and going top of the league ❤⚽

“Those who watch our under-21s games will have seen some of the goals he’s scored.

“He was excellent and got a great block in at the end as well. Defensively he was very good and going forward he was always an out ball for us.

“He’s a pleasure to work with and his attitude and application is brilliant.”
