Brighton & Hove Albion's Bobby Zamora came off the bench last night to score his first goal at the Amex and secure a 2-1 win over Bristol City - keeping the Seagulls top of the Sky Bet Championship. The striker entered the fray in the 76th minute and found the net just six minutes later. Despite only playing in the latter stages of the match, Zamora fully believed that Brighton deserved the win.
“We created a lot of chances and I think we deserved the win overall. It shows our character coming from behind, and also the perseverance and spirit shown from the lads,” he told Brighton’s official website.
“We’re going to need it this year; it isn't going to always be as rosy as it has been so far this season; there will be a sticky patch and the togetherness we showed last night will help us get through it.”
Zamora is certainly correct in saying that Brighton have had a rosy start to the season. The Seagulls are sitting at the summit of the Championship and are yet to lose, making them the only undefeated Football League team in 2015/16.
The 34-year-old has scored the match-winner in their last two games, against Leeds United and the Robins, and it seems he is enjoying his time back at the club, having played for them between 2000 and 2003.
“It’s nice to score and get the three points once again. I’m almost speechless to be honest. To score two in two when coming on as a sub is special and it’s Brighton.
“Obviously a lot like Saturday’s match, it’s great to be scoring goals for Brighton again. The club means so much to me and it was great to get the winning goal again.”
While Zamora’s goalscoring exploits may not have been foreseen in Back To The Future, it was his first home goal for Brighton in over 10 years!
