Battle at the top: Walsall v Burton Albion

8 October 2015

Sky Bet League 1's top two will clash at Banks's Stadium on Saturday, when Walsall take on leaders Burton Albion.

It will be the first time the pair have met in a competitive game in their history, with first place at stake in their maiden encounter.

Burton are three points ahead of the Saddlers with 25 points on the board from their first 11 outings. They've lost just two of those – against Barnsley and Coventry City – but haven't suffered a defeat for five games.

Walsall's similarly rich vein of form has seen them lose just once this term, and that also came over a month ago at the hands of Bury. The draw has been their achilles heel in recent weeks, though, and they've shared the points in three of their last four.

Last season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy finalists Walsall have been sharper in front of goal than Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Burton over the course of the campaign, and if they are to notch up victory this weekend, they will go top of the division courtesy of a better goal difference.
