"We put our bodies on the line" - Blackpool boss Neil McDonald on derby success

30 November 2015

Blackpool manager Neil McDonald was a happy man after watching his side end their losing run in the Fylde Coast derby against Fleetwood Town.

The Seasiders had lost seven straight matches in all competitions, failing to score in the last six, but they ran out 1-0 winners at Bloomfield Road on Saturday, courtesy of a Nathan Pond own goal.

And McDonald praised his side for putting their poor form behind them and grinding out a result.

"We were under pressure after losing five games in the league and two cup games," he told the club's official website.

"We were up against our local rivals, who are on the up with a couple of good results and have been scoring lots of goals. We've managed to keep a clean sheet and won 1-0.

"I thought our first-half performance was a really good. Whether it be a spectacular goal or a deflection goal, we certainly needed it and got it.

"Even though we didn't acquit ourselves really well in the second half and felt a little bit nervous because of the run that we're on, we showed solidarity in everything we did and defensively we put our bodies on the line."
