While seven goals were scored there, Portsmouth hit six at Fratton Park to thump 10-man York City 6-0. Marc McNulty inspired the victory, scoring a hat-trick.
That result moved Pompey up to fourth, and they trail third-placed Northampton Town by four points after the Cobblers won 2-1 at Crawley Town.
The top two drew, meanwhile - Oxford United, who are second, shared the points with Newport County and leaders Plymouth Argyle drew 1-1 with Leyton Orient.
At the other end of the table, Yeovil Town prop up the division following a 1-0 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, and York slipped into the bottom two after their loss at Pompey.
Dagenham & Redbridge are up to 22nd, out of the relegation zone, having won 1-0 at AFC Wimbledon - their second victory of 2015/16.
Elsewhere, Accrington Stanley’s match against Hartlepool United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
