Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 18 review

21 November 2015

It was goals galore on Matchday 18 in Sky Bet League 1, with 39 strikes hitting the back of the net on an action packed afternoon.

Coventry City replaced Gillingham at the top of the table after an emphatic 4-1 win over them at the Ricoh Arena, with Jacob Murphy hitting a 10-minute hat-trick as the Sky Blues romped to victory.

Tony Mowbray's men now boast a three-point advantage at the summit, after close challengers Walsall and Burton Albion failed to retrieve all three points on their return to League duties.

Wigan Athletic now split Walsall and Burton - in fourth - after their fifth win in six games. The Latics needed just the one goal from new loan signing Alex Revell to secure the points against Shrewsbury Town.

Elsewhere, Peterborough United moved out on their own as The Football League's most prolific side in front of goal, after they thrashed bottom club Crewe Alexandra 5-1.

Fleetwood Town also hit five for a much-needed win against fellow strugglers Swindon Town at Highbury, and Millwall scored four to thump Colchester United at the Den.

Bradford City kept extended their run of clean sheets in all competitions to six games with a 2-0 win at Scunthorpe United, and Port Vale prevailed 3-2 against Chesterfield at a snowy Vale Park.
