Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 18 preview

20 November 2015

The pick of the action in Sky Bet League 1 this weekend comes at the Ricoh Arena, where Coventry City host Gillingham in a battle between the top two.

International call-ups led to two postponements last weekend, but all 24 teams are back in action this Saturday. Here are the fixtures in full, all of which get under way at 3pm.

Saturday 21st November

Bury v Burton Albion
Coventry City v Gillingham
Crewe Alexandra v Peterborough United
Doncaster Rovers v Rochdale
Fleetwood Town v Swindon Town
Millwall v Colchester United
Oldham Athletic v Barnsley
Port Vale v Chesterfield
Scunthorpe United v Bradford City
Southend United v Blackpool
Walsall v Sheffield United
Wigan Athletic v Shrewsbury Town

With Walsall not in action in Matchday 17, both Coventry and Gillingham took advantage to climb into the two automatic promotion places.

Gillingham moved to the summit, Coventry - unbeaten in eight - climbed to second, and they now face a fight for top spot in what will be the 50th meeting between the pair.

Should the spoils be shared, then the Saddlers can retake the lead in League 1 with a two-goal victory over Sheffield United. It's been a tight affair over recent years, however, with four of the last five encounters between Walsall and the Blades finishing 1-1.

Burton, level on points with Dean Smith's men, were also out of action last weekend and they go to Bury, one of the sides who came up automatically with the Brewers last term.

The other pair of clubs not to feature last Saturday were Millwall, who host Colchester, and Shrewsbury, who make their first ever trip to the DW Stadium having not played Wigan since the 1993/94 season.

It's not been quite as long, but Southend and Blackpool also renew acquaintances after an extended absence. The last League clash between the coastal clubs came in 2006, and they meet in Essex on Saturday.

Barnsley have suffered eight straight league defeats, and Lee Johnson takes the out-of-form Tykes to his former employers Oldham Athletic.

Rochdale travel to Doncaster, winless in seven, for what will be the duo's 105th encounter, and Bradford, who are seven unbeaten, go on the road to Scunthorpe, and that will be the 50th time the pair have locked horns.

Elsewhere, Swindon travel to Fleetwood, Crewe host Peterborough, and Chesterfield, who have won their last three games on the road, go to Port Vale.
