Hull City claimed the outright lead of the Sky Bet Championship table after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Bristol City.
The Tigers hadn't conceded a goal in five League games prior to their visit to Ashton Gate, but were undone when Kieran Agard struck following a goalmouth scramble. Steve Bruce's side dug in, however, and found an equaliser in the second half through a cool finish from Shaun Maloney. With Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion not in action until Sunday, Hull opened up a one-point advantage at the summit.
Derby County did take advantage of their draw, though, as they strolled to a 2-0 win over Cardiff City at the iPro Stadium. Second-half strikes from George Thorne and Andreas Weimann gave the Rams all three points.
Below Derby - in sixth - are Birmingham City, but they fell to a surprise defeat at the hands of Charlton Athletic at St Andrew's. It's now just one win in the last five for Gary Rowett's side, but it was a much-needed second victory on the bounce for Charlton, who secured their first on the road all season.
The only other away victories of the day came at Elland Road and Deepdale, where Neil Redfearn guided Rotherham United to a 1-0 triumph over his former side Leeds United, and Paul Lambert's reign as Blackburn Rovers manager got off to a perfect start as they beat Lancashire rivals Preston North End 2-1.
Elsewhere, there was a last-gasp winner for Brentford at home to Nottingham Forest, while Reading and Sheffield Wednesday both recorded home wins, against Bolton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town respectively. It means Bolton drop to the bottom of the division, and that it was an opening game to forget for new Huddersfield boss David Wagner.
On Friday, Middlesbrough edged Queens Park Rangers - who were without stand-in manager Neil Warnock on the touchline - 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium.
In Sunday's game, Bobby Zamora gave Brighton a first-minute lead at Turf Moor, but it was quickly cancelled out by Andre Gray as Burnley earned a share of the spoils.
