Martin Ling picked up three points on his dugout debut at the County Ground, and praised the character of his Swindon Town players after the triumph.Swindon had gone 10 Sky Bet League 1 outings without a win, but goals from Raphael Branco and Nicky Ajose helped the Robins to a 2-1 victory over in-form Scunthorpe United.
"Sometimes you have to roll your sleeves up - it wasn’t a pretty football day. I feel they showed resilience," Ling told the club's official website.
"We were just about worth it. In the first half we looked nervy. We grew into the game in the last 10 minutes of the first half and that gave us forward momentum.
"When you haven't won for so many games we looked nervous on the ball. We just about edged it."
The 49-year-old boss was also pleased that his players maintained their brand of passing football, despite its lack of success in recent weeks.
"The players didn’t lose belief in [the playing style] so it was good to see them get their just desserts by getting a win. It gives them confidence going into Fleetwood next week."
