Leeds United's Alex Mowatt backtracks on favourite goal after latest stunner

11 November 2015

Leeds United's Alex Mowatt looks to be having his own goal of the month competition in November after scoring back-to-back screamers in less than a week.

Mowatt's first stunner came against Cardiff and he claimed his match-winning strike was “definitely the best goal I have scored”. He soon changed his mind following his long-range effort against Huddersfield Town at the weekend, though, which was later named as our Goal of the Weekend in the Sky Bet Championship.

“I definitely preferred the one on Saturday. It was a derby game and that settled it, really, they were never coming back from 3-0 down so I was well happy with it,” he told Sky Sports after the final whistle.

Following the match on Saturday, Mowatt was awarded the Man of the Match award as well as being named in our Team of the Week, and the midfielder was quick to acknowledge manager Steve Evans for his upturn in form.

“I didn't play in his first three games, and rightly so as I wasn't performing as well as I was last season.

“Since I've been back in the team he's given me confidence. I've been playing in a slightly different role but I've liked it so far.

“Since the gaffer came in we have picked up a few good results and everyone’s going into the international break a lot happier. When we come back, hopefully we can keep this run going.”

After picking up back-to-back wins Leeds sit 15th in the Sky Bet Championship going into the international break. They're next in action against boss Evans' former club Rotherham United on 21st November.
