Johnstone's Paint Trophy: Area Quarter-Final review

11 November 2015

Wigan Athletic were the first team into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Semi-Finals after an emphatic 4-0 win over Blackpool on Tuesday night.

Two Jordy Hiwula goals, either side of efforts from Sean Murray and Yanic Wildschut, sent the Latics comfortably through to the next round of the Northern Section.

They'll be joined by Sky Bet League 2 side Morecambe, who defeated higher-tier opposition for the third successive round - this time beating Rochdale 1-0 on the road.

Adam Hammill announced his return to Oakwell in style, scoring Barnsley's winner in a 2-1 triumph over York City, while Fleetwood Town defeated Sheffield United 4-1 on penalties following a goalless stalemate at Highbury.

There was also penalty joy for Yeovil Town in the Southern Section, as they upset the odds to advance past Gillingham.

Harry Cornick's opener was cancelled out by a stunning strike from Gills full-back Bradley Garmston, but the Glovers kept their cool from 12 yards to win 5-4 in the shoot-out.

The game of the night, however, came at Home Park, where a Lee Gregory hat-trick helped Millwall to a 5-3 win over League 2 leaders Plymouth Argyle.

On Wednesday, Oxford United scored goals early in each half to record a 2-0 win at Dagenham & Redbridge. Patrick Hoban struck the opener after just 35 seconds, before Alex MacDonald added a second in the 47th minute.

Elswhere, John White netted the only goal of the game to see Southend United to a 1-0 win over League 2 Bristol Rovers.
