For the second season running, the number of arrests of football supporters were the lowest on record according to statistics published by the Home Office.
Throughout the 2014/15 season, 1,873 people were arrested out of the 38 million that attended football matches in The Football League, Premier League, Football Conference, domestic cup competitions, European competitions and international football. This total was 400 less than the previous season and an 18% decrease.In The Football League arrests fell by 9% to 914, representing less than 0.006% of supporters attending matches. On average there remain 0.55 arrests per match across the season throughout the Championship, League 1 and League 2 combined.
Over the last five seasons, arrests at football have gradually decreased and last year there were 4.9 football related arrests for every 100,000 attendees at football matches.
The figures also show that the number of football banning orders issued fell by 4% to a total 2,181.
Since September 2014, 484 new football banning orders have been issued, a decrease of 29% when compared with the previous year.
A Football League spokesperson, said: "The Football League and its clubs work closely with the police and local authorities to ensure that all Football League grounds are safe places for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy live games.
“Each season clubs invest over £10 million on security arrangements to ensure supporters remain safe to enjoy the match experience. In addition nearly £5 million was spent on police services during 2014/15, though more than half of Football League matches required no police presence at all.
"That arrests and football banning orders continue to drop is excellent news and a testament to the safety measures our clubs implement to keep fans secure.”
