The Tynesiders has just two players over the age of 19 in the starting line-up, and they got themselves off to fine start through Mechack Kanda's goal.
A wonderful individual strike from Adam Wrightson doubled the advantage, but Hartlepool reduced the arrears on the hour through Dylan Elliott.
However, a curling effort from John Ackroyd put the game to bed, before Wrightson capped off his afternoon with his second and Gateshead's fourth.

Final Third Development League Cup - North Group ABurnley moved top of Group A with a narrow success over Morecambe last Thursday, defeating the Shrimps 1-0.
The game had looked to be heading for a goalless draw, but Josh Ginnelly scored late on for the Clarets to give them hope of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Walsall grabbed a late winner on Tuesday afternoon to earn all three points against Burton Albion.
Amadou Bakayoko gave the Saddlers a first-half lead after latching on to a pass from Reece Flanagan, but Marcus Dinanga levelled things up in the second period.
But the Brewers couldn't hold on for a point as Liam Kinsella won, and then converted, a penalty with five minutes to go, handing Walsall a 2-1 triumph.
