Final Third Development League Digest

19 November 2015

There were just three games played over the past week, with Gateshead, Burnley and Walsall picking up the points in the League and Cup.

Final Third Development League Digest - East

The only league game of the week came in the North East, where Gateshead were rampant in a 4-1 win at Hartlepool United.

The Tynesiders has just two players over the age of 19 in the starting line-up, and they got themselves off to fine start through Mechack Kanda's goal.

A wonderful individual strike from Adam Wrightson doubled the advantage, but Hartlepool reduced the arrears on the hour through Dylan Elliott.

However, a curling effort from John Ackroyd put the game to bed, before Wrightson capped off his afternoon with his second and Gateshead's fourth.

Final Third Development League Cup - North Group A

Burnley moved top of Group A with a narrow success over Morecambe last Thursday, defeating the Shrimps 1-0.

The game had looked to be heading for a goalless draw, but Josh Ginnelly scored late on for the Clarets to give them hope of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Final Third Development League Cup - South Group B

Walsall grabbed a late winner on Tuesday afternoon to earn all three points against Burton Albion.

Amadou Bakayoko gave the Saddlers a first-half lead after latching on to a pass from Reece Flanagan, but Marcus Dinanga levelled things up in the second period.

But the Brewers couldn't hold on for a point as Liam Kinsella won, and then converted, a penalty with five minutes to go, handing Walsall a 2-1 triumph.
