Crewe Alexandra's first home victory a 'huge boost' - Steve Davis

2 November 2015

Crewe Alexandra earned their first Sky Bet League 1 home success on Saturday - a win which manager Steve Davis saw coming.

Ryan Colclough's second-half strike gave the Railwaymen a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United, and Davis believes recent performances had shown they were more than capable of producing that kind of result.

"I don't think there will be many who had us down for that but I stand by the judgement that we have played well in games and the performances have been relatively good," Davis told the club's official website.

"The results haven't quite gone for us at home. We hadn't been getting the rub of the green but we got it a bit more [against Sheffield United]."

Davis admitted that the Blades put his men on the back foot in the early stages, but he watched his side take control and felt they were worth the three points, which still leave them rooted to the bottom of the division.

"It was another great performance from us and I am proud of every single one of them. We didn't start as well I would have liked but we grew into the game.

"Ryan [Colclough] was the difference and he has that real bit of quality. He showed great technique for his goal and hopefully this win is a huge boost for us going forward."
