Cambridge United v Notts County: Shaun Derry up against former employers

27 November 2015

Cambridge United play host to Notts County in Sky Bet League 2 this weekend, in a match which pits boss Shaun Derry up against his former employers.

The 37-year-old took charge of Cambridge earlier this month, and grabbed his first three points in midweek with a 4-2 win at Morecambe.

On Saturday, Notts County visit the Abbey Stadium, and Derry is more than familiar with the U's weekend opponents. Nottingham-born Derry began his playing career with the Magpies, spending three years at Meadow Lane and, just over two years ago, was appointed as their manager.

While Tuesday's win came in Derry's third games as Cambridge boss, his wait for a maiden managerial triumph at Notts County took considerably longer.

Derry failed to oversee a win in the first six matches, before posting back-to-back victories against Gillingham and Colchester United in Sky Bet League 1. And back-to-back wins would be just the ticket for Derry and the U's, who are yet to record consecutive triumphs this term.

Cambridge lay 17th as a result of their inconsistency, but can overtake Notts County with three points on Saturday afternoon.
