Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth keen to attack in the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final

22 May 2015

Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth says his side will maintain their attacking approach when they take on Southend United in the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final at Wembley.

The Chairboys recorded an emphatic 5-3 aggregate victory over Plymouth Argyle in their Play-Off semi-final, and only League 2 champions Burton Albion scored more in the division than Ainsworth's men this season.

And the 42-year-old has insisted his side will continue with their forward-thinking style of play on Saturday, as they bid for a place in Sky Bet League 1 next term.

"We're going to approach this game like the previous two games - with a consistent level of attacking football," he said.

"League form has gone, it is a tournament we've entered into now, and this tournament is called the Play-Offs.

"We're against a real big boy of our league, but we've upset more than one team this year and I don't see why we can't do it on Saturday."

Ainsworth is keen to enjoy the occasion at the national stadium, despite the pressures that a Play-Off Final brings. He’s not only confident of his side’s chances this weekend, but the future of the club as a whole.

"It's just brilliant to be here - the boys are riding the crest of a wave and seeing how far it's going to take us," he added.

"Everyone fancies their chances: we're doing well at the moment, we're confident and we've won three games in a row.

"We've had a good season, worked hard and deserve to be in the final at Wembley.

"I am so proud about what we've achieved this year - on and off the pitch this club is going in the right direction.

"We now have this one opportunity to make it extra special."
