Swindon Town advance to Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off Final after 10-goal thriller against Sheffield United

11 May 2015

Swindon Town sealed their place in the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off Final by seeing off Sheffield United 7-6 on aggregate, after a thrilling 5-5 second-leg draw.

The Robins, holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, raced into a 3-0 lead at the County Ground within 18 minutes courtesy of two Ben Gladwin goals and one from Michael Smith.

Jamie Murphy and Chris Basham found the net for Sheffield United to make it 3-2 prior to half-time, before Smith added another for the Robins with a penalty on the hour mark.

The Blades replied again just five minutes later when Steve Davies headed home, only for Jon Obika to seemingly settle it at 5-3 with a cool finish.

But, in typical Play-Offs fashion, the drama was far from over and goals from Matty Done and Che Adams made it 5-5, ensuring a tense finish.

Mark Cooper’s men held on though, in what was the highest scoring match in the history of the Play-Offs, to advance to Wembley, where they’ll face Preston North End with a chance to end their 15-year absence from the Sky Bet Championship.
