Stevenage and Southend United all square after feisty Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off semi-final first leg

10 May 2015

Stevenage and Southend United are neck and neck in their Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off semi-final, after they drew 1-1 in the first leg at the Lamex Stadium.

The first half saw no goals but wasn’t without incident, as play was halted for eight minutes following a brutal clash of heads between Stevenage’s Bira Dembele and Southend’s Michael Timlin. The latter was substituted immediately, while Dembele was replaced at half-time.

After the break, the two sides sparked into life, and it was the hosts who drew first blood, as Dean Parrett’s curled effort found the net from 25 yards.

It didn’t take Southend long to hit back, however, as Barry Corr headed home nine minutes later to send the Shrimpers back to Roots Hall with a draw.
