Southend United and Wycombe Wanderers book date for Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final

14 May 2015

Southend United and Wycombe Wanderers will meet in the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final at Wembley after another night of semi-final drama.

Wycombe secured their place in the showpiece with a 2-1 second-leg victory over Plymouth Argyle at Adams Park.

The Chairboys, who held a 3-2 aggregate lead going into the game, went through with relative ease after first-half strikes from Paul Hayes and Alfie Mawson.

Plymouth, just as they did in the first leg, hit back in the second half, though, through Ryan Brunt, but ultimately came up short to lose 5-3 on aggregate.

It was a little less straight forward at Roots Hall, where Southend and Stevenage needed extra-time to settle their Play-Off semi-final.

It was the visiting Boro who took the lead in the 55th minute after Tom Pett calmly slotted past goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, following a defected effort from Dean Parrett.

But Ryan Leonard struck 12 minutes later to level the scores, and the Blues could have won it at the death when they were awarded a penalty. Barry Corr stepped up, but missed from the spot to ensure the tie went to extra-time.

Southend dominated the extra half an hour of play, and Stephen McLaughlin grabbed the crucial goal after 108 minutes, with Michael Timlin adding a stylish third in the dying seconds to book their place at Wembley.
