Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough: The pressure is on Swindon Town

11 May 2015

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough is happy to wear the underdogs tag on Monday night when his side travel to Swindon Town in the Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off semi-final second leg.

The Blades will be looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit following last Thursday’s first leg at Bramall Lane, with tonight’s winners facing Preston North End in the final at Wembley Stadium.

Should Clough’s side overcome the Robins, it will be the club’s third Play-Off final since 2009, and Clough believes his team have a real chance of winning the tie.

"We head to Swindon on Monday as underdogs, but that doesn't bother us, it hasn't bothered us against the likes of West Ham, Southampton, QPR or Tottenham this season and we will be backing the players to rise to occasion again when the odds are against us,” Clough told www.sufc.co.uk.

"We need one goal to get back on terms in the tie, it doesn't matter when it comes, but having started the tie with little between us, they begin the second leg as strong favourites, and the pressure is on Swindon.”

Despite conceding in the last minute of the first leg, Clough was pleased with how his players performed and wants them to replicate that at the County Ground.

"We can't go for it any more than we did on Thursday, we threw bodies forward whenever we could throughout the game in search of a positive result and we are hoping for a repeat of that.

“We will go to the County Ground looking for that victory to give us a chance and we are confident that the players will carry out the game plan to the letter again."

"We have got a lot of desire and character within the group and that will be crucial throughout the second leg and hopefully beyond."
