Norwich City captain Russell Martin says he knows what to expect from the pressures of Wembley when the Canaries take on Middlesbrough for a place in the Premier League.
Martin has 18 caps for Scotland and one of those came against England under the arch, and the defender knows the atmosphere and high stakes will change the complexion of the meeting in Monday's Play-Off Final.“Next week will be a totally different game, with the pressure that comes with it,” he said.
“I played at Wembley for Scotland against England, so I know what to expect and there are a few more who have played there.
“For us to bounce back how we have, when you look at the other teams to have come down and the teams who did before that, it’s a huge achievement to get to Wembley.
“It all counts for nothing, though, if we go there and don’t win, so we’ve got to make sure we do it.”
The clash will see the two highest-placed play-off contenders go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium having overcome tough semi-final tests.
Martin says it will be fitting if promotion is achieved by overcoming Boro, who beat the Canaries twice during the regular season - 4-0 in the North East and 1-0 at Carrow Road.
“Whoever it was going to be, we would have wanted to beat them to get to the Premier League, it’s as simple as that.
“Middlesbrough are a good side, they’re really organised and they’re hard to break down. We’re disappointed with how we played up there but that was a long time ago now.”
