Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 win at home to Rotherham United on Wednesday moved them to within eight points of the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off places.
Since Dougie Freedman’s appointment at the beginning of February, Forest have enjoyed a meteoric upturn in form to post seven wins from their last 10 games, which has seen them lose just once – and only table-toppers Watford can rival that form.Their latest triumph closed the gap to Brentford in sixth to just eight points, and there are plenty of reasons for the East Midlands outfit to be optimistic about a late push for the Play-Offs.
This weekend, Forest travel to fourth-placed Norwich City in one of five clashes they have against top-eight opposition from now until the end of the campaign.
Home matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Watford, and trips to Brentford and Ipswich Town are still to be contested, in what is set to be one of the tightest ever finishes to a Championship season.
The facts for Forest
- Over the last five seasons, an average of 72 points has been enough to secure the last Play-Off spot.
- Should Forest replicate their haul of 17 points from their last eight games, over their upcoming eight, they will end the season on 74 points.
- However, if Norwich, Derby County, Brentford, Ipswich and Wolves equal their respective points tallies from their last eight showings, Forest will be two shy of scraping into the top six.
