Richard Money pleased with long-awaited win as Cambridge United beat Morecambe

2 March 2015

Cambridge United boss Richard Money said his side fully deserved their first win in 10 games as they won 2-0 at Morecambe.

Goals from Ryan Donaldson and Jordan Slew earned Money's men a first success since January.

Since a 4-0 thrashing of Newport County on 17th January, the U's had failed to win seven league games as well as their two high-profile clashes with Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Their return to form moved them eight points clear of the Sky Bet League 2 relegation zone and Money was delighted with the performance that managed it.

He said: "The result didn't flatter us really and I think we could have won by more to be honest.

"We looked really good with the ball and looked solid when we didn't have it and scored two good goals.

"There was a lot to be pleased with and it is nice to get back to winning ways again after a bit of a difficult period. We looked dangerous throughout the first half and the goal was fully deserved.

"It was great to score a goal from in their six-yard box because we hadn't done that for a while and it set us up perfectly.

"They put us under a bit of pressure in the second half but we saw it through well. We didn't have too many scares and might have got a third.

"We knew this was an important game for us and it was a really important win.”
