Bristol City: Clear at the Sky Bet League 1 summit, but can they break the record points total?

13 March 2015

Last season, Wolverhampton Wanderers won the Sky Bet League 1 title having amassed an all-time third-tier record of 103 points.

Fewer than 12 months later and that achievement is already under threat.

Bristol City are riding high, on 79 points and 13 clear at the top of the 2014/15 League 1 standings. With 10 games of their season remaining, a win in every game would see the Robins finish with a mammoth 109 points.

However, 25 would be enough to surpass Wolves’ total, meaning Steve Cotterill’s side can only afford to drop five points if they are to set a new all-time points record at League 1 level.

The first of those games sees Gillingham visit Ashton Gate on Saturday. The Gills have only lost once in the past 10 League 1 fixtures and are making a late push for the Play-Offs – they currently trail the top six by four points.

But the table-toppers are riding a five-game winning streak. Since being humbled by Colchester United last month, City have taken a maximum 15 points and look destined for the Sky Bet Championship next year, with Wolves' record points tally reachable.
