A number of teams chase Doncaster Rovers for a Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off place

13 March 2015

Much like the top of the Sky Bet Championship title race, the battle for a Sky Bet League 1 Play-Off place is tighter than ever!

Like the hare in greyhound racing, Doncaster are the team being chased this weekend. They occupy the final Play-Off berth, sitting in sixth position, but they have seven teams within three points of them.

That goes all the way down to Rochdale in 13th position, with Gillingham and Oldham Athletic one point further back and four adrift of Rovers.

The pick of the bunch in the top-six shoot-out this weekend comes at the top of that pile, with Rovers hosting eighth-placed Peterborough United. Both teams are on 50 points, separated by goal difference only.

Doncaster are holding onto that final spot in the Play-Offs following two successive draws, and those four dropped points have seen Posh breathing down their necks after three successive wins under caretaker boss Dave Robertson.

Barnsley are wedged between those two sides in seventh, also on 50 points. The Tykes are on a stunning run of form having taken a maximum 15 points from their last five outings, without conceding a goal.

Lee Johnson takes his new charges to his former employers on Saturday with a trip to Oldham’s Boundary Park. The Latics have slipped down the standings of late (15th, 46 points) after just one victory in their past five.

Bradford City could also be in the Play-Offs come 5pm on Saturday, should Doncaster, Peterborough and Barnsley all fail to win.

The Bantams are at Notts County this weekend. Although Phil Parkinson’s side secured an FA Cup quarter-final replay with Championship outfit Reading, their league form has suffered with a solitary victory in the past month.

Their opponents County (19th, 41 points) have lost seven of their past nine and now sit just six points above the drop zone.

Chesterfield (10th), Port Vale (11th) and Fleetwood (12th) are all tied on 48 points ahead of home games this weekend. The Spireites host Coventry, Vale welcome Swindon to Vale Park while Fleetwood face Rochdale (13th) with one point separating the sides.
