25 points from a possible 27, scoring 21 goals, keeping seven clean sheets - Preston North End hit promotion form

19 March 2015

It's fair to say Sky Bet League 1 promotion-chasers Preston North End are on form, and this weekend they travel to Barnsley.

The Lilywhites (2nd – 72 points) possess the longest unbeaten record in The Football League, having gone nine games without defeat, remarkably winning eight of those to take 25 points from 27 available. In that time, they’ve kept seven clean sheets, conceding just three times while scoring 21 goals.

With League 1 leaders Bristol City in Johnstone’s Paint Trophy action against Walsall at Wembley, Simon Grayson's men could move to within eight points of City should they be victorious at Oakwell.

However, Barnsley themselves are in a rich vein of form and have their own undefeated streak of seven games to protect.

A 0-0 draw at Leyton Orient on Tuesday came after six straight wins for the Tykes (6th – 54 points), as they dropped their first points in over a month of League football.

With a handful of teams breathing down their neck for the final Play-Off place, Lee Johnson’s side have now reeled in Sheffield United in fifth, who sit just one point ahead.

So, with two unbeaten records to protect, the signs perhaps point to a draw, but two sides in red-hot form should lead to a cracker in South Yorkshire this Saturday.
