Will Atkinson says that he did not have to think for long before penning a new two-year contract at Southend United.
Atkinson is due to stay at Roots Hall until 2017, after committing his future to the club.It is a huge boost for Phil Brown’s side following their promotion to Sky Bet League 1 and Atkinson was delighted to have been given the chance to stay for the long-term.
“It was an easy decision to stay,” the 26-year-old, who played 41 times last campaign, told the club’s official site.
“I was pleased with last season from a personal point of view and with the team winning promotion, it turned out to be a great campaign for us all.
“I've played a lot of football for Southend since I joined the club and I really can't wait to play in League 1 next season.
“The last two years have been pretty successful I think with the Play-Offs in my first year and then the win at Wembley last season, and I want to be part of some more good times with the club for the next two seasons.”
